Lead Shelter Advocates
DAIS is seeking Lead Shelter Advocates to join our growing team. The Lead Shelter Advocate provides support and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and their children in the DAIS emergency shelter. Responsibilities include assisting shelter residents with daily living needs, providing general support and shelter coverage, conducting assessments to determine eligibility for shelter services, maintaining and updating the client database, preparing rooms for new residents and conducting security checks. The Lead Shelter Advocate serves as the primary contact person for Shelter Advocates while on duty and when a coordinator or manager is unavailable. The Lead Shelter Advocate is an awake position. Work shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays to ensure adequate coverage of the shelter program. Full-time Lead Shelter Advocates are scheduled to work designated shifts Monday through Friday. Regular Part-time Lead Shelter Advocates provide weekend and overnight coverage in addition to weekday coverage as needed.
A successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent and will have a minimum of two years of experience working with trauma survivors. In addition, experience in a residential facility setting strongly preferred. Experience supervising the work and performance of others, knowledge of domestic violence issues, experience in crisis intervention, excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office, and bilingual abilities are preferred.
